Ali Tafreshi, MD

Ali Tafreshi is a resident neurosurgeon at Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania, and he is completing a research fellowship in the Brain Modulation Lab. He grew up in southern California, and went to college in Massachusetts at Williams College where he studied psychology and neuroscience. He went on to complete medical school at University of Southern California. 

 

His project, funded by a grant from the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Foundation, examines electrophysiological patterns in sensing-enabled neuromodulation in patients underdoing deep brain stimulation surgery for OCD.

 

He plans to complete a fellowship in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery and continue to work on innovative approaches to treat patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. His long-term goals include optimizing treatment for, increasing utilization of, and improving access to neuromodulatory and other surgical treatments for neuropsychiatric disease.

 

Outside of the lab, he enjoys screenwriting and photography.
